Parish Pantomime raises £1500 for Charity

The Corpus Christi Parish Pantomime, Wokingham raised £1500 for two very worthy causes this year with their own self-penned spin on the classic pantomime, Cinderella.
The panto took place at Caudwell Hall Theatre in Holme Grange School Wokingham in January 2019 and the funds raised split between two charities; Sal’s Shoes and Berkshire Respite Holidays.

 Sal's Shoes

There are 300 million children in the world for whom walking with shoes is a rarity. This makes them extremely vulnerable to infection, and without shoes; many children are not permitted to attend school. Sal’s Shoes take used, loved (and barely worn); outgrown children's shoes (& some adult) shoes and transport them direct to a new home; crossing continents to make sure that they are delivered straight to those in need.

Berkshire Respite Holidays

Berkshire Respite Holidays work in conjunction with The Jumbulance Trust, a small, national charity which “Makes Travel Possible” for sick, disabled and other disadvantaged individuals. Using a “jumbo sized ambulance” i.e. a coach designed to cater for handicapped people. They offer groups and individuals the rare opportunity to leave their care home to take holidays, short breaks or a day out in the UK or Europe.

Director of the pantomime, Martin Robins said: “I am so proud of the cast for the quality of the show they produced and the funds raised for these very worthwhile charities”.
CJ from Sal’s Shoes said: “It was just fabulous! You were just fabulous! As a relatively small charity in terms of funding our only real limitation is financial and every £1 donated is a pair of shoes on the feet of a child who may otherwise not own a pair.”

The Corpus Christi Parish Pantomime Group is a social group from the Corpus Christi RC Church Wokingham, involving people as young as 11 and some even in their 60s. The all-amateur group get involved in every aspect of the performance from writing the script to sorting the sound, lighting, costume, and make-up. They are always looking for new members so if you fancy getting involved either on stage or back stage contact
